Homeopathy the what, how and why

Imagine a little plant growing in nature. For centuries, people have observed how plants, minerals, and other natural substances can affect the human body.

Homeopathy began with the idea of using these substances in a very specific way. A substance is prepared through a process of dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking). The resulting remedy is then given in very small amounts.

The heart of homeopathy is the idea of “like cures like”—that a substance capable of producing certain symptoms in a healthy person may be used, in homeopathic form, when a person has a similar pattern of symptoms.

But homeopathy isn't simply about finding a remedy for a diagnosis. A homeopath looks at the whole person and the unique way they experience their symptoms.

That is what makes homeopathy so fascinating: instead of asking only, “What condition do you have?” homeopathy asks, “What makes your experience unique?”

One of the things people love about homeopathy is its gentle approach. Homeopathic remedies are used with the intention of supporting the body's own natural ability to restore balance and heal.

Homeopathy can be explored for everyday, short-term concerns as well as longer-term, chronic health issues. For simple, acute concerns, changes may sometimes be noticed relatively quickly. Chronic concerns are different. When something has been affecting the body for months or years, healing and improvement can take time.

Homeopathy isn't about forcing the body to change overnight. It is about gently supporting the individual and allowing the body to move toward greater balance—one step at a time.
